“J. EDGAR KLEZMER: Songs from My Grandmother’s FBI Files” is original documentary musical theater based on the true story of Dr. Adele Sicular (1899–1976), drummer/ bandleader Eve Sicular’s Grandma. Using declassified files obtained through a Freedom of Information Act inquiry, plus extensive archival discoveries and substantiated family gossip, this piece investigates the dealings of the FBI and certain personal adventures
as freely interpreted decades later. As with various episodes in the show, this song’s inspiration was an unexpected encounter with someone who recognized the distinctive family name and approached with a story to tell—this one about a supposed affair between the guy’s father and Eve's grandmother.
