Live onstage from The Museum at Eldridge Street NYC: Music originally introducing beloved cartoon character Cheburashka in the 1969 animated Soviet TV short "Krokodil Gena," featuring a lonely intellectual crocodile who befriends an unclassifiable but adorable furry creature for whom the series—and our track—are named. Later episodes featured music by the ever-popular Vladimir Shainskiy, but this debut’s instrumental score was written by film composer Mikhail Ziv, perhaps most famous for his work on the epic war picture "Ballada o Soldate" (Ballad of a Soldier) a decade earlier. This television theme, first heard under the opening title sequence, reprises in numerous scenes depicting the sweet, sensitive characters’ isolation and longing for connection. Ushered in here from Metropolitan Klezmer’s own 25th anniversary concert.
